Egypt is one of the easiest big trips to reach from Germany. Hurghada sits about four and a half hours from most German airports, the warm-winter calendar lines up neatly with the German off-season, and from 1 August 2026 arriving with a German passport got simpler still. Whether you picture a week of all-inclusive sun on the Red Sea or a slow cruise past the temples of the Nile, this collection gathers the tours worth booking — and the notes below cover how to get there, what it costs and when to go.
Getting there: charter to the Red Sea, scheduled to Cairo
Germany is one of Egypt's largest Red Sea source markets, and it shows in the flight map. Hurghada (HRG) is the primary leisure gateway, reachable non-stop in roughly 4.5 hours, with Air Cairo, Condor, Corendon, Eurowings, Nesma Airlines, Nile Air and TUI fly all flying the route, frequently from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. For Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH), Corendon and TUI fly serve Düsseldorf non-stop, and TUI fly has announced a new Frankfurt–Sharm route from June 2026 (verify before booking).
Most Red Sea leisure seats are sold as charters bundled inside a package. If your trip is culture-first, fly scheduled to Cairo (CAI) instead: EgyptAir, Condor, Lufthansa and Air Cairo all offer direct Frankfurt–Cairo flights, with Lufthansa running roughly 20 weekly departures. The route takes about four hours, and return fares have been seen from around €317 up to the €450–€490 range (meta-search figures — verify live).
Visa for German citizens
German passport holders need a tourist visa, and there are two easy routes. The official online e-visa runs about US$25 single-entry or US$60 multiple-entry; the single-entry version is valid 90 days from issue with a 30-day stay, the multiple-entry for six months. Apply at the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, about a week before you travel, and skip third-party sites that add a markup.
The bigger news for 2026: from 1 August, Egypt is piloting a digital visa-on-arrival at Cairo International Airport — a QR code replacing the old paper sticker — at a total of US$36 (a US$30 visa fee plus a US$6 issuance charge). Paper stickers stay available during the pilot, with other airports to follow. Whichever route you use, your passport must be valid at least six months beyond entry with blank pages (figures as of 2026 — verify).
What a trip costs
The classic German product is the Pauschalreise: flight, hotel and transfer bundled, usually all-inclusive on the Red Sea. As a benchmark, seven nights all-inclusive with flights at a resort like TUI BLUE Makadi near Hurghada has been listed from about €734 per person (verify current pricing). A Nile-and-Cairo culture trip is built from separate pieces — flights, a cruise or hotel, and guided tours — and the tours in this collection carry their own live prices. Treat every figure here as a starting range and confirm at checkout.
Best time to go
The German beach season on the Red Sea runs autumn through spring, with February and November the cheaper shoulder months where the weather stays warm. For a combined Cairo and Nile culture trip, winter (November to February) is the most comfortable window, with daytime temperatures around 15–25°C. Prices and charter capacity spike over German school holidays — the summer Sommerferien, plus Easter and autumn breaks — so shoulder months are where the value sits. The Red Sea works year-round: summer is hot inland but stays a popular family-holiday period on the coast.
Red Sea or the Nile — or both
The two Egypts appeal to different moods. The Red Sea is the reliable all-inclusive beach week: sun, reef snorkelling and short transfers, ideal if you want to switch off. The Nile is the culture itinerary — Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Aswan and Cairo's pyramids, best seen from a slow river cruise. Many German visitors combine both. If a cruise is calling, our Nile cruise guide walks through routes, boats and what to expect on board.
What to book
Below you'll find bookable day tours and multi-day itineraries: Cairo's pyramids and museum, Luxor's temples and tombs, Aswan and Abu Simbel, Red Sea desert and reef excursions, and full Nile cruises. Carry small Egyptian-pound notes for tipping (baksheesh is near-universal), keep cash on hand since souks and taxis rarely take cards, and consider Hepatitis A cover and travel-health insurance with repatriation before you fly. Pick a tour, check the live price and dates, and book.
Häufige Fragen
Do German citizens need a visa for Egypt?
Yes. German passport holders need a tourist visa. The easiest routes are the official online e-visa (about US$25 single-entry / US$60 multiple-entry) or visa-on-arrival. From 1 August 2026, Cairo Airport is piloting a digital visa-on-arrival — a QR code instead of a paper sticker — at a total of US$36. Apply for the e-visa at visa2egypt.gov.eg at least a week ahead, and make sure your passport is valid six months beyond entry. Verify current fees before you travel.
How long is the flight from Germany to Egypt?
Hurghada on the Red Sea is roughly 4.5 hours non-stop from most German airports. Frankfurt to Cairo is about four hours (around 4h06–4h10). Direct flights run from cities including Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Munich.
How much does an Egypt trip from Germany cost?
A classic German package — seven nights all-inclusive on the Red Sea with flights — has been listed from about €734 per person (for example TUI BLUE Makadi near Hurghada). Scheduled Frankfurt–Cairo return fares have appeared from around €317, with typical low fares in the €450–€490 range. Guided tours are priced separately. Treat these as starting ranges and verify live.
When is the best time to visit Egypt from Germany?
For Cairo and Nile culture trips, winter (November to February) is the most comfortable, with daytime temperatures around 15–25°C. On the Red Sea the season runs autumn through spring, with February and November the cheaper shoulder months. Prices and charter capacity peak over German school holidays, so shoulder-month travel offers the best value.
Should I choose the Red Sea or a Nile cruise?
The Red Sea (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm) is the all-inclusive beach-and-reef holiday — sun, snorkelling and short transfers. A Nile cruise is the culture route, taking in Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Aswan and Cairo's pyramids from the river. Many German travellers combine both, adding a few culture days to a Red Sea stay. See our Nile cruise guide for routes and boats.
How many days do you need in Egypt?
A Red Sea beach package is typically seven nights, matching the standard German all-inclusive week. A culture-focused Nile itinerary usually wants around a week too — enough for Cairo's pyramids plus a three-to-four-night Luxor-to-Aswan cruise. To combine beach and culture comfortably, plan on ten days to two weeks.
