Bahrain to Cairo is a short, daily, no-drama run — a little over three hours in the air, with the pyramids a taxi ride from the airport. Bahraini nationals enter visa-free, and once the summer heat sets in, the Red Sea becomes the natural family escape (reached, in Bahrain's case, mostly via Cairo). This page covers the flights, the entry rules for nationals and residents, and the trips worth booking.
Getting there: flights from Bahrain
Gulf Air, EgyptAir and Air Cairo fly direct Bahrain (BAH) to Cairo (CAI), with daily service on Gulf Air and EgyptAir. Route frequency was reported at around 69 flights a week as of April 2026, and the average flying time is about 3h11m. Round-trip fares have been observed around BHD 148 to 164 for various 2026 dates, with one-way fares from about USD 127 (roughly BHD 48) — convert and verify. Air Arabia also lists Bahrain to Egypt service, typically connecting via its hubs.
Direct Bahrain to Hurghada scheduled service is not confirmed in current sources, so Red Sea itineraries from Bahrain generally route through Cairo and then continue by domestic or charter flight to Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh. Treat any direct Red Sea option as seasonal and worth verifying.
Visas: nationals versus residents
Entry rules split two ways, so confirm which one is yours before booking.
Bahraini nationals enter Egypt visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 30 days; Bahrain is among the countries with visa-free arrangements with Egypt. Just bring a valid passport.
Expat residents of Bahrain holding a valid Bahrain residency permit qualify for a visa on arrival or e-visa, provided the residency has at least six months left. The traditional single-entry tourist visa on arrival has been priced around USD 25 for a 30-day stay. Eligible travellers can also pre-approve through the official e-Visa portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg before departure.
The new digital visa on arrival
From 1 August 2026, Cairo International Airport launched a digital visa-on-arrival pilot across all arrival terminals, replacing paper stickers with a QR code. You can generate it before you fly, in the air, or on arrival — through the official portal at visaonarrival.gov.eg, a "Visa On Arrival" mobile app, or self-service kiosks in the arrival halls. Reported fees and validity still differ between sources (roughly USD 36, with QR validity quoted as either 48 hours or up to 7 days), so treat exact figures as unsettled during the pilot. Paper visas continue alongside the QR system for now, and the digital route is meant for tourism, not business.
What to book
Egypt specialists market Bahrain-origin packages that combine Cairo and Alexandria sightseeing — Giza pyramids, Saqqara, the Sphinx, Khan El Khalili, the Citadel, the Egyptian Museum — with a Red Sea leg of Hurghada snorkeling, diving and desert safari. Unusually for the Gulf origin markets, indicative USD price bands are published here: around USD 999 for an 8-day Hurghada holiday, from about USD 1,220 for a 12-day Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Hurghada package, and from roughly USD 2,010 for a 15-day trip (as of 2026 — verify; no native BHD band is published, so convert and confirm). If you want to add a river leg, our Nile cruise guide covers the Luxor–Aswan stretch.
Best time to go
The peak family window is the summer school holidays, roughly June to August, when Bahrain's heat drives a Red Sea escape. Hurghada in July and August runs about 34–37°C with near-zero rain, sea around 28°C, tempered by a sea breeze and low humidity. Eid Al-Adha, observed Thursday 28 May 2026 in Egypt, is a major short-break spike, with Hurghada, El Gouna and Marsa Alam the go-to beach picks. For Cairo and Nile sightseeing rather than beach, October to April is the cooler, more comfortable window, and several operators cite it as best for Bahrain-origin sightseeing trips.
Money and practical notes
The currency is the Egyptian Pound. Carry some clean USD or EUR cash for the cash-only visa kiosk and emergencies, and withdraw EGP from ATMs on arrival for better rates. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted; Amex is patchy. Keep small notes for tipping (baksheesh), which is expected across most services, and let your bank know you are travelling to avoid card blocks.
