The state opera house on Gezira, home to the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Ballet and the Arab music ensembles. The Main Hall enforces formal dress — jacket for men, no jeans — and closes its doors on the downbeat, so latecomers wait for the interval. Tickets route out to Tazkarti and the cheaper balcony seats go first. The complex also programmes the Small Hall and the open-air theatre, and separately runs summer concerts at the Salah El Din Citadel, which is a different part of the city entirely.
