Hurghada's most popular day on the water heads out to the reefs and sandbars of the Giftun Island group, a protected national-park archipelago just offshore. You board at the marina and cruise out to the first snorkelling stop, dropping anchor over a coral reef busy with butterflyfish, parrotfish and clouds of anthias in the warm, clear water. After time in the sea, with gear provided and crew watching over swimmers of every level, the boat repositions for a second reef before pulling in at Orange Bay, the powder-white sandbar that has become the signature image of the Hurghada coast. Here there is time to wade in the shallow turquoise water, sunbathe on the sand and simply soak up the setting; a small optional beach fee applies on the island. A buffet lunch is served on board between stops, with soft drinks and water on hand through the day. It is an easy, sociable full-day outing that suits families, couples and first-time snorkellers, with none of the logistics to worry about. Bring swimwear, a towel, a hat and reef-safe sunscreen, and a waterproof pouch for your phone if you want photos in the shallows. Transfers from your Hurghada hotel are included at both ends.
