This experience centres on Siwa Oasis and the Great Sand Sea, one of the largest sand seas in the world, where you will see vast dunes and desert scenery. You will float in the salty waters of Lake Siwa and swim in Cleopatra’s Pool, a natural spring that is said to have healing properties. You will also hike to the top of the Mountain of the Dead, a cemetery site dating back to the 7th century BC, and visit the Temple of the Oracle of Amun, a 2,000-year-old temple that was once a place of pilgrimage for ancient Egyptians. Along the way, you will explore a traditional Siwa House, a mudbrick home typical of the oasis, and learn about local ways of life. Your local guide will share the unique culture and history of Siwa, offering context for the ruins, springs and daily traditions you encounter.
