You do not need to dive - or even get wet - to meet the Red Sea's reef on this family-friendly half-day trip aboard the Royal Seascope. From Hurghada Marina you board the boat and cruise out to the reef, then step down into the vessel's glass-walled lower deck, where large windows sit below the waterline. Seated in air-conditioned comfort, you watch the coral gardens and their residents drift past at eye level - clouds of anthias, parrotfish grazing the reef, angelfish and, with luck, a passing ray or turtle - while a guide points out what you are seeing. The boat pauses over the richest coral for the best viewing, and there is a stop where those who want to can slip into the water for a snorkel over the same reef before the cruise back.
