On this tour you will visit key ancient Egyptian sites near Cairo, beginning at the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx. You will see the massive stone structures that have defined the Egyptian landscape for millennia and learn about their role in pharaonic beliefs and burial practices. You will then continue to the older Step Pyramid at Sakkara, where you will observe one of Egypt’s earliest monumental stone constructions. After that you will go to Memphis, known as the first ancient capital of Egypt, and explore its remains and their place in early Egyptian history. As you move through each site, you will gain a sense of the development of ancient Egyptian architecture and statehood. Together, these landmarks offer a concentrated look at some of the greatest achievements of ancient Egypt near Cairo. The experience will give you historical context and visual contrasts between different periods, from early burial innovations at Sakkara to the monumental scale of the Giza complex and the administrative significance of Memphis.
