The West Bank of Luxor offers some of the region’s richest archaeological sites, often even more so than the East Bank. You can explore a string of pharaonic mortuary temples and the richly decorated Tombs of the Nobles. Alongside these, the Workmen’s Village of Deir el-Medineh gives a glimpse into the lives of the craftsmen who built and decorated the royal tombs. The West Bank is also the gateway to the Valley of the Kings, where the pharaonic burial chambers are concentrated. Although the majority of visitors still tend to stay on the East Bank, a growing number now consider the West Bank as a good place to base yourself. If you stay there, you may not need to cross the river each day, since many of the main sights are right at your doorstep.
