A local guide originally from Fayoum will take you around the region to share its history and natural beauty. Fayoum was founded in Pharaonic times and had special importance during the Ptolemaic period, and you will hear about that long past while visiting key sights and landscapes that shaped the area. As you move through Fayoum you will see the large Lake Qaron, once famed for its plentiful fishing, and the green agricultural scenery that still defines much of the city. The area also includes some of Egypt’s largest waterfalls, which are rare in the country, as well as a striking desert, colourful mountains and the unique Valley of the Whales, Wadi El Hitan, where fossils at least 40 million years old can be found. Along the way you will meet friendly local people and you will try traditional local food, giving you a sense of everyday life in Fayoum.
