You will be accompanied by an Egyptology expert guide to the Giza Plateau, where the great Pyramids of Giza stand. These massive stone structures were built around 4,500 years ago on a rocky desert plateau close to the Nile. As you move around the site, you will see the three famous pyramids—Khufu (the Great Pyramid of Cheops), Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaure (Mykerinos)—and learn about the pharaohs associated with them. You will also visit the nearby Sphinx, the mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. During the Cairo part of the tour you will have lunch at a high-quality restaurant. You will also visit the Egyptian Museum, with displays arranged in chronological order. The museum typically includes Tutankhamun’s treasures, pre-dynastic and Old Kingdom monuments, Middle Kingdom and Modern Kingdom items, late-period and Greek and Roman exhibits, a papyrus collection and sections for sarcophagi and scarabs. Along the way there will be a stop for shopping before you return.
