Visiting Egypt in January
The coldest month, and the busiest. Cairo sits around 19°C by day and drops sharply after dark — the evenings genuinely need a jacket, which visitors reliably under-pack for. Coptic Christmas falls on 7 January and is a public holiday, so government offices and some museums close. Upper Egypt is at its most comfortable and its most crowded; book Abu Simbel and Nile cruises well ahead.
