The largest island off Hurghada and the heart of Giftun Islands National Park. Sheltered western coral gardens (Banana Reef, Erg Sabina, Ben El Gebel) and exposed eastern walls. The channel between Big and Small Giftun ('Between the Mountains') is a dive in its own right at 8-20 m. Depth 5–40 m; day boat; Mild on the western (lee) side, moderate to strong on the eastern drop-offs current.
