PADI Enriched Air Diver

Longer bottom times, less fatigue — the Red Sea favourite

Enriched Air, or Nitrox, is the most popular specialty on the Red Sea and a near-essential for liveaboard trips where you dive three, four or five times a day. Breathing a higher-oxygen mix extends how long you can safely stay at depth and leaves many divers feeling markedly less tired between dives. The course is short — mostly theory plus analysing your tank — with no extra open-water dives required, and it pays for itself the moment you start doing multiple dives a day.

What you’ll learn

  • How enriched-air mixes extend no-decompression limits
  • Analysing your cylinder and setting your computer for the mix
  • Managing the maximum operating depth for a given blend
  • Why Nitrox reduces fatigue across repetitive dives

Who it’s for

Any certified diver doing multiple dives a day — especially anyone booking a Red Sea liveaboard, where Nitrox is close to standard.

Where to do it in Egypt

Available at most centres in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam, and offered on essentially every liveaboard — often free or included on the boats.

Common questions

Do I need extra dives for the Nitrox course?

No — it's primarily a knowledge-development course plus practising gas analysis. Some centres add an optional dive on Nitrox to apply it.

Is Nitrox worth it for a liveaboard?

Almost always. On a boat doing 3–4 dives a day, the longer bottom times and reduced fatigue make a real difference by mid-week.
